Tamarindo
Tamarindo: Its been a long year since my last post(actually a year and one day) and really, sitting down these days will cost you money but finally the time has come up for something new and fresh. At present times I am spending time with my familly in Europe, area of Liguria Italy and it gives me the time to reflect with the benefit of perspective. My older daughter Melissa has this perception that Tamarindo has been ruined to over development(she and her mom live in Switzerland and lately have taken the liking of Fernando de Noronha in Brazil as their tourist destination),so i made it my job to try to change tha perception since it is my opinion that the whole thing has been just that, bad publicity. That over development she talks about is just "development" neccesary to take care of our own, our children. I mean, last time I went surfing I don't recall getting sick from the water or having to deal with road traffic. Prices are lower crowds are thinner and the wave venus are more and more available through better roads... than before (we were never known for our good roads) . A friend of mine just spent time in Nicaragua in the early part of march and came back complainig about the crowds there, IN MARCH!.Nicaragua might just be the new thing which has taken the heat from CR and make it the go to spot, thank god! So i invite you to come to this country, not just Tamarindo and find Costa Rica with your own eyes. I dont really want to give to much away becouse i belive you need to earn your own adventure. You may ask,so where does the NEW n FRESH fit in?They just finished that segment of road south of Quepos that will take you faster to Pavones than ever before. The roads to Negra and Avellanas arent bad either. If you happen to be in that neck of the woods chek my wife's project www.CanopyPuraAventura.com. A lot has happened since Bruce Brown decided to use Tamarindo as the opening segment for his beloved project but the water is still beautifull, Playa Negra is still there and the bull fights are a comon ocurrance at different towns across Guanacaste. The locals love to share beers with you stangers and as long as the waves keep coming, this will always be a Cinderella surf destination. Here are some other sites that should help you call your travel agent very pronto. Look in rovercam.com into Jim Hogan's surf school. Jim was and still is an all guts all out surfer from California that chose CR as his adopted home and puts his name as his presentation card, a fact I respect. Plus he is a great guy. He lives in Playa Hermosa and speaking of this beach, it delivers. From there south you get miles and mile of open ocean beachbreak after beachbreak. No crowds there if you don't want them. I mentioned Pavones a little while back. Please check "The king of Pavones" in youtube. It made me choke a little bit and last but not least go to Puerto Viejo just beacouse. The place is unreal and so is it's people. I'll ask my wife to spread my ashes there one day, in front of Salsa, the place that made me.
